{"id":10326,"date":"2023-03-08T01:07:56","date_gmt":"2023-03-08T01:07:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/explorecareers.co.uk\/?p=10326"},"modified":"2023-06-21T07:06:51","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T07:06:51","slug":"international-womens-day-2023-meet-the-kickass-team-behind-explore-careers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/explorecareers.co.uk\/international-womens-day-2023-meet-the-kickass-team-behind-explore-careers\/","title":{"rendered":"International Womens Day 2023: Meet the Kickass Team Behind Explore Careers!"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\">4<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We all know and love International Womens Day for the ways it celebrates and acknowledges the contributions of women everywhere, across all parts of our society and workplaces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But let&#8217;s face it: <em>there\u2019s still a long way to go regarding the gender-equal society we all desperately want.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em>At Explore Careers, every day is a celebration of an incredible team of women, kicking goals and raising the bar.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>International Womens Day 2023<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The theme for IWD 2023 is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationalwomensday.com\/Theme\"><strong>#EmbraceEquity<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationalwomensday.com\/Theme\">.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Equity and equality are words that often get used to mean the same thing but have quite different meanings &#8211; especially in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IWD offers this great distinction between the two words:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Equality<\/em> <\/strong>means each individual or group is given the same resources or opportunities.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Equity<\/em><\/strong> recognises that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IWD 2023 <strong>#EmbraceEquity<\/strong> campaign theme seeks to get the world talking about why <em>&#8220;equal opportunities are no longer enough&#8221; &#8211; a<\/em>nd can be <em>exclusionary<\/em> rather than <em>inclusive<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is something that is regularly highlighted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/explorecareers.emotedigital.com.au\/article\/2023\/02\/24\/understanding-the-gender-pay-gap-everything-you-need-to-know\/\">gender pay gap<\/a>. Only focusing on equal pay is not enough when women face several workplace equity barriers, especially regarding their financial capacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And while we love a day to celebrate women worldwide, the truth is the contributions of women everywhere are so much more than a single day. Many organisations simply wouldn\u2019t exist without the hard work of their female employees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Explore Careers is no exception!<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Celebrating the Women of Explore Careers<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For IWD 2023, we wanted to highlight our growing team of kickass women!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s a LOT behind the scenes here at Explore Careers HQ, and it all comes down to this team striving to implement bigger, better ideas and boost the landscape of early careers for young woman everywhere.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To celebrate them and their journeys, I asked them to share the top advice they\u2019d give to young girls everywhere when looking to create their own success career stories.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s what they had to say:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SAY YES!<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cSay yes to every opportunity that is presented to you. You never know where an opportunity may lead you. Hard work gets noticed, so don\u2019t be afraid to put in the hard work.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>&#8211; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/harriet-cooper-8627aab1\/\"><strong>Harriet Cooper<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Acting General Manager<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWork hard, don\u2019t rely on anyone else \u2013 it\u2019s up to you! Say yes to every opportunity even if it scares you because it could end up changing the course of your life!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/rebecca-stoneman-b21977b8\/\">Rebecca Stoneman<\/a>, Projects Director<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>SUCCESS IS A COMMUNITY!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cSuccess is a team sport! Don&#8217;t be afraid of putting yourself out there and connecting with a wide range of people within the business, especially those outside your business unit. Not only will you make a friend or have extra support should you need it, but you&#8217;ll also be exposed to a variety of perspectives and insights that challenge you and your way of thinking that can help inform decisions you make within your role!\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>&#8211; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/laura-mae-maneckshana\/\"><strong>Laura Maneckshana<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Partnerships Manager<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>FOCUS ON YOUR VALUES<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cIdentify your workplace values and find a job that aligns with them. Research your potential boss and look for a mentor in the company, then take the time to learn and grow in your role. Remember that finding the right fit is important for career success and job satisfaction, so don\u2019t be afraid to ask questions and pass on offers that don\u2019t feel right.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/georgia-mastromatteo-295295138\/\"><strong>Georgia Mastromatteo<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Sales &amp; Partnership Manager<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cDon\u2019t compare yourself to others, compare yourself to yourself. Basically, to always improve on who YOU were yesterday but don\u2019t waste time trying to be something you\u2019re not or aiming to be like someone else.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>-Sarah Haycraft, Director of Partnerships<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>CHANGE IS GOOD!<\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cDon&#8217;t stress over finding the perfect career immediately. You will learn a lot about yourself, what you want to achieve, and what you like in the coming years, and possibly go down several career paths and do many career u-turns before you find something you love. And that&#8217;s ok!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/claire-kirwan-866971105\/\"><strong>Claire Kirwan<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Partnerships Manager<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><em>\u201c<\/em><\/strong><em>Try absolutely everything, and if you&#8217;re not in love with something after starting it, there is no harm or shame in quitting and trying something else.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>&#8211; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/madeleine-barwell\/\"><strong>Maddie Barwell<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Social Media, and Marketing Coordinator<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>DON\u2019T LIMIT YOUR POTENTIAL<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cWhile our careers are super important, they are not the whole part of who we are and everything we have to offer. If you\u2019re struggling to find what this part of your life could offer you, my advice is to take the time to figure out what you do and don\u2019t like, what your strengths and challenges are, and to take advantage of the creative, informative resources available to you.\u00a0 Trial and error is a part of learning; if you ever feel like you\u2019re on the wrong path, you are completely welcome to pick another one.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/danielle-westbury-98362996\/\"><strong>Danielle Westbury,<\/strong><\/a><strong> School Communications Manager<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>ENJOY THE JOURNEY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And a little piece of advice from me: <em>enjoy the journey! <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We often think of our careers as something we have to rush towards and find success as quickly as possible. But when we do this, we often let all the subtle lessons our experiences have to teach us slip by.
