Diplomas & Pathways

There’s more than one way to get into University

Whatever your situation, our pathways and entry schemes can help you get into your dream course.

Currently studying at high school

We have various programs for Year 12’s that can give you an ATAR boost or if you’re completing an unscored VCE – help you to get a La Trobe entry score. These include Achieve at La Trobe, Prepare for La Trobe and the Tertiary Preparation Program. Our pathways recognise you for your achievements outside of school. Whether it’s in sport or the community, you can be rewarded with the Elite Athlete Program or Aspire. Pathways aren’t just specific programs. They are often courses with similar subjects but a lower ATAR that help you transition into your dream course while enrolled with us here at La Trobe.

Ready to try university after taking a break from study

Even if you haven’t studied for a while, you still have options when it comes to university. If you finished school and received an ATAR, you may still be able to use your ATAR to get into our Bachelor courses. You’ll need to make sure you meet the ATAR requirements and any prerequisites. If you don’t have the appropriate qualifications you can still complete an Undergraduate Diploma or the first year of a similar Bachelor’s, then transfer to your preferred course. We have diplomas in most of our major studies areas that are equivalent to a first year Bachelor’s degree. This includes business, health sciences, IT, science, education and arts.

Already have a certificate or diploma, or other higher education experience?

Your TAFE or VET qualifications could help you transfer into your preferred La Trobe course. You may also be eligible to transfer from a partner institution and receive credit or enrol in a similar Bachelor’s course and transfer into your dream course later on. To discuss your options in more detail, please contact our team at La Trobe or read more about the various pathways on our website.
